1929 Three bishops and an archbishop attend the solemn dedication ceremony as St. Dunstan's Cathedral is raised to the status of a basilica. Rome has accorded this distinction to honour the centennial of the creation of the Diocese of Charlottetown.

Driving Directions to Elmira

From the Confederation Bridge

Follow the Transcanada Highway (route 1) to Charlottetown.
From Charlottetown, travel the beautiful north shore via Route 2 to St Peters Bay and then Route 16 to North Lake.
From North Lake, turn right to Route 16A for approximately 100 km.

Alternatively from Charlottetown

Travel inland on Route 1A / Route 3 to Cardigan
From Cardigan, travel Route 4 to Souris and then Route 16 to South Lake (approximately 100 km).
Turn left on to Route 16A.
Elmira is 22 km east of the Magdalen Island ferry terminal.

From Northumberland Ferries


Take Highway #201 about 25 km to Montague.
Connect onto Highway 4 approximately 38 km to Dingwells Mills.
Connect onto Highway 16 and drive about 20 km to Souris.
Pass through Souris and continue on Highway 16 to South Lake.
Turn left on to Route 16A and drive for approximately 2 kms to the museum site.

From Magdalen Island Ferry


Take the Wharf Road to Highway #16.
Take a right turn and go east.
Turn left onto route 16A.
