Beaconsfield Historic House
Designed and built by W.C. Harris in 1877 for James and Edith Peake, Beaconsfield was one of Charlottetown’s most elegant homes. Featuring the finest materials and craftsmanship, it was also equipped with all the latest conveniences of the day. The Peakes, unfortunately, were destined to enjoy Beaconsfield for a very short time - a time filled with triumphs and tragedies.
Henry Cundall, the second owner, moved into Beaconsfield in 1883 with his sisters Penelope and Millicent. After his death in 1916, the house was used as a young ladies’ residence, and later, the “Cundall Home” became a residence for student nurses.
Today, Beaconsfield Historic House stands as a beautiful example of Victorian architecture with many original features and a fascinating story! It's open year-round for tours and hosts lectures, concerts, and other special events in the Carriage House. Visit our gift shop featuring locally made gifts, Island books, magazines, pottery and more!

The exterior grounds are free to roam at any time. The interior can ONLY be viewed by taking our guided tour.
July and August
- Monday to Saturday* – guided tours available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every 30 minutes. Last tour begins at 4:00 p.m.
- Sundays starting on July 12 - Open 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Every 30 minutes. Last tour begins at 3:00 p.m.

Explore the hidden history of a lost Charlottetown neighbourhood!
This FREE 45-minute walking tour is offered out of Beaconsfield Historic House. In the Fall season, the tour is offered as weather permits.
In September and October, the Bog Tour will be offered:
- Thursday at 1:30 PM
- Friday and Saturday at 11 AM and 2 PM.
We recommend calling Beaconsfield Historic House at 902-368-6603 ahead of arrival to ensure tour availability. Fall weather can quickly cancel a walking tour in Charlottetown!
In cases of inclement weather, the Bog Tour may be canceled and/or moved inside for a modified version without notice, though we will try to update social media and the website when we know ahead of time.

We are pleased to once again host a photo exhibition on the lawn at Beaconsfield Historic House, in collaboration with The PEI Regiment, titled, "150 Years Strong: Honouring 150 Years of the PEI Regiment".
Explore the free outdoor exhibition that commemorates 150 years since the formal creation of the PEI Regiment from May 2026 to October 2026. This exhibition offers a historical overview of the regiment’s evolution, including its re-organizations and the remarkable contributions of those who have served, past and present.
American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted Historic House Tours will return! Thank you for a successful pilot run in March and April 2026.
