The Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation provides stewardship for the Provincial Collection. Our holdings cover all human and natural history of Prince Edward Island.
After contacting our Collection Department, our Curatorial team will discuss the potential donation and help you through the process. We take into consideration a number of factors and may require up to date photographs of the objects. Please understand that we cannot accept all offers.
To help us make a decision about potential donations. We look at a variety of criteria:
We consider whether the object fits with our collecting mandate and if it reflects an aspect of PEI natural, social, cultural and material history.
Other factors might include whether we already have similar artifacts in our museum’s artifact collection, the provenance of the object (historical associations, who owned it, who made it), and its condition and how safely and effectively we can display or preserve the artifact for future research or programming needs.
We do not accept objects dropped off at the museum sites; all potential donations must go through the Collection Department.
Our Collection team is currently working on a major reorganizational project. As a result, during the 2023 year, there will be a significant delay in making final decisions on potential donations. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thanks for your patience!
