New Collection Facility
Help us protect PEI’s heritage for generations to come. It's your heritage.
We care for the Provincial Collection of over 100,000 material and cultural objects. Every single item passes through our Collection Facility before reaching our museum sites. The better our Collection Facility, the better we can preserve and share the Island’s history.
We have outgrown our current facilities but new objects are still added to the collection almost every month. We need a bigger space where we can keep the collection safe for future generations. While we’ve secured some core government funding to retrofit a larger building to serve as our Collections facility, it’s not enough to cover the full cost.
That’s why your support matters. A new Collection Facility will:
- Ensure proper care for PEI’s material and cultural objects
- Allow us to accept more donations from the public
- Strengthen our ability to preserve Island heritage

With your contributions we have continued creating amazing content. the hidden island podcast has been downloaded over 20,000 times around the globe, Canada-wide, and right here in PEI. This engaging product turns over stones to share stories about Mi’kmaq legends, bootlegging, 2SLGBTQIA+ in PEI, the intersection of murder and mental health, and asks the important question - do you believe in ghosts?
Our Next Goal
We want to compile and share more stories from PEI’s hidden history and reach our goal of 30,000 downloads. To do that, we need your support!
Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and always fascinating – the podcast is more than just entertainment. The Foundation has developed curriculum tie-ins and teacher resources for each episode for grades ten to twelve and materials for grades seven through nine are under development. The podcast showcases guests from all walks of life who share their experiences and expert knowledge of PEI history.
The Island Magazine
For forty-eight years, we published The Island Magazine. Since 1976, this quality publication has shared stories about Prince Edward Island, our remarkable people, notable events, and our unique natural heritage. We are committed to the continued publication of this hallmark with compelling, well-crafted, well-researched articles that share the Island experience.
Our Next Goal
To help us continue to share these important stories, we are seeking donors to contribute to the editorial, translation, publication, and printing costs of The Island Magazine. We also work with Island designers, printers and contributors, making The Island Magazine the quintessential Island publication.
Other Initiatives
- Donating Heritage Passports to community organizations so that PEI community members may visit our sites and learn about their homes and its history
- Delivering education programming to students to share our history in a hands-on way that is aligned with provincial curriculum outcomes – we offer much more than just a field trip
- Donating passes to Big Brothers Big Sisters PEI so that “Bigs” can visits the sites with their “Littles” for a fun and educational experience
- Sharing PEI’s history and heritage in new ways to reach new and expanded audiences. These initiatives include our podcast, an online material and cultural object collection, and a strong social media presence where we share special moments from our history
- Providing Heritage Passports to the Provincial Library Service so that library patrons may check-out passports for personal use in a movement to make our sites accessible to all
