Karen joined the Board after a 35 year career with the CBC. Her experience stretches from the National Newsroom in Toronto, to on-air hosting with CBC Prince Edward Island’s Island Morning and Mainstreet.
An "Islander by choice", Karen has been based in Charlottetown since 1986. CBC took Karen to every corner, cause and celebration on the Island. Heritage was an important topic over the years including interviews and popular series with historians Ed MacDonald, David Weale, Boyde Beck, Georges Arsenault, Dutch Thompson, Betty Howatt, Robert Tuck and Betsy Epperley.
Karen's reporting for CBCRadio, Television and cbc.ca on the work of PEI’s Farmers Helping Farmers in Kenya was recognized with a CBC Radio Peer Award and a gold prize in the prestigious international Gabriel Awards. The Dieticians of Canada, PEI Literacy Alliance, Charlottetown Heritage Awards, Music PEI and the PEI Writers' Guild have also recognized her work.
An avid, lifelong learner, Karen has a Masters in Education from UPEI, a Diploma in Journalism (Georgian College, Barrie) and a BA in Politics (University of Guelph). Karen supports community and not-for-profit organizers volunteering as a host/emcee and with fundraising/communication campaigns.
You will find her handing out medals at the PEI Marathon finish line. She also served as a Board Member with FilmPEI. Karen has no spare time, but spends it with her husband, son, dog and friends.
